Earlier yesterday, i write a post about What wordpress should do . I was attempting to make some points regarding WordPress , but obviously did so in a very poor way.
Regardless of my frustration recently, I regret the way in which I raised the topic and how I authored the post. I never intentionally want to create that blog post looks like a linkbait post or to start any fight with the developers of WordPress.
But my bad, that article looks that way.So hereby I apologizes to the WordPress Developers and enthusiasts for framing such an awful article in such an awful way.
First of all, i want to tell everybody about myself to clear some doubts.
About Me
My name is S.P.Arun. I am from India.I am a Civil Engineer.
I came to know about blogging and WordPress, when wp 2.3 is there. I first started with a account in wordpress.com , after one month WordPress 2.5 was released.I was very happy with the change in admin panel and I started learning about WordPress from then.It takes totally two months for me learn about WordPress, different between wordpress.org and wordpress.com, advantage of changing to self hosted version, etc…
After that i started creating some websites (self hosted) and learn about every plugin and themes, how to configure them, and learned how easy to achieve what i wanted in WordPress. I realize the full power and potential of wordpress and what can we do with it and its endless possibilities from a lot of useful tutorials around the web mainly from Justin Tadlock and Ian Stewart.
So after a month or two, i started creating websites using wordpress for the non-profits organisation in and around our area. That made me to continue the spirit, and work as a WordPress consultant for clients (local) which includes not only installing and creating a website with WordPress but also i maintain it for them by upgrading wp, plugins, themes, etc..
I have created around 150 websites in total, in which i maintain 70% of websites until now (i can make only 30% educative enough to use wordpress on their own.. thats another story)
What I am not trying to do
1. I am not a spammer
2. I am not a Wp – beginner.
3. The main issue of the post is not blaming the developers of WordPress.
4. It is not intended to be a linkbait post.
5. I am not asking questions , without knowing the answers.
6. this post is not mainly about security
7. when I am talking about security, i am not meaning that the developers are not enough fast to release patches for the vulnerability or the hacking .
Despite all the above , the post visualizes and seems to prove the opposite is true.
what have i done wrong
1. captilising, bolding of letters..
2. uses different styles throughout the post
3. not making my points clear cut.
4. using words which skyrocket your tensions
by using all the above, it is obvious that developers and users may think that , i am yelling or being aggressive for which no one reacts well too…
what i am actually trying to say
Being a WordPress consultant and been talking to many people and managing their sites, i just thought it will be cool and useful for wordpress to implement the changes i pointed out.
but i done it in a way , which just irritates people while reading and they are not enogh happy about me whatsoever the content tried to explain.
now i will try below to summarize my claims (offcouse eliminating unwanted ones ) clear cut enough to understand.
1. Educate users how much important every wordpress upgrade is irrespective of major and minor releases and irrespective of hacking is done or not
2. Encourage users to report their host if wp automatic upgrades are not working in that codex page and report the host itself the same by pointing the codex page. this way , if that particular host has many users who uses wp and have that problem, they will soon solve that problem based on the amount of complaints received from its users
3. please do not make users to mess with wp-config file by creating a feature which cannot be made off without using a plugin.make it as a default setting (like db name, username etc..) on wp-config file or give us an option to disable that feature at the admin backend.
4. restrict plugin authors to avoid adding a lot of tags in the plugin repository, which in turn make the wordpress built in feature “popular tags” section unusable by the repitation of same tags (different tag names, but serves same kind of plugins).
5. unlike plugin repository, theme repository doesnt show the popular tags for easy browsing.(even though it can be done inside wordpress software or by accessing the direct url of themes tags page) .
I dont expect any/all of the above should be done and i dont want to quarrel about this with the developers or users in the comments or elsewhere .it is just my idea or suggestion when done will help users.
This is pretty much all i want to say.Instead of making that post like a feedback post or idea post ,that post is indeed looking like blamming wordpress and its developers.i admit the fault i have done and i assure everybody that this type of mistakes will not happen again in the future.
i feel sorry for the way i behaved amoung developers of wordpress and users , believe me or not ,i definetly not write that post with such intensions whatsoever.if you guys still dont forgive me after i issued an apology, you can start tweeting “Dumbass apolozised”
