The Title is more than Enough of what i am going to say. I just want to ask a simple question to WordPress developers. “Do you guys actually go through the “Popular Tags” list in the “Add Plugins” page from top to bottom ? (for atleast one time, if not now go and look for it)
It has exactly 100 tags (even i counted it ..lol…) in the popular tags section of “Add Plugins” page. Below are some of the tags listed which are mostly repeated by different other tags (but it share same kind of plugins)
- admin – administration
- bookmark – bookmarking - bookmarks – social bookmarking
- categories - category
- comment - comments
- feed - feeds
- image - images
- link – links
- navigation - page – pages
- photo – photos – picture – pictures - thumbnail
- plugin - plugins
- Post – posts
- statistics - stats
- tag – tags
- user - users
- widget - widgets
The most unacceptable tags are “plugin” and “plugins” (lol…we know we are browsing plugins only here… )
So In a total of 100 Tags, more than 50 percent are useless. Guys , are We (the users) look like a fool to you ?
So why not take a look at it and change it as soon as as possible..What I think is, this can also be controlled by reducing the number of Tags (may be 5 ) a plugin author should add for his plugins …and again don’t tell me that they are all ready small or a lot of tags is not allowed in WordPress Plugin repository.
The Above picture was taken, just before this post was published from a bookmarking plugin page in in WordPress Plugin repository. (are you kidding? )
look all the tags added for a bookmarking plugin.people if they want a bookmark plugin from the WordPress Plugin repository, then they search there for “BOOKMARK” and not for” healthranker, mixx or indianpad“.
If you do solve this problem, people will have the chance and time to look into the ALL of the “6086 Plugins” (as of this writing) which are often neglected by a mask of popular plugins and by this kind of mistakes in Core.

The tags for plugins are an open system and an automated one at that, meaning that it’s going to become cluttered and disorganized. Unless WordPress.org starts recommending a limited number of tags and filters tags that mean the same thing, then it’s going to stay like it is.
I think you should bring up with problem at http://wpdevel.wordpress.com . The WordPress.org site is going to be redone in the near future and it’s possible that this could be improved at the same time.
What ? bring up the problem in wpdevel ? hmm…
Thats what i did, 15 days before publishing this post.

But what i get in return ?
“would rather see a broader discussion about this before bringing it into dev channel. Maybe start a discussion on hackers first? ”
is this the way ?
am i a fool ? come on guys , where else i have to bring it on ? huh ?
